Market Holidays, Early Closes, Trading Halts, and Delays
U.S. equity markets are generally open on regular business days, but market holidays, early closes, trading halts, trading delays, and suspensions may affect whether a security or market is open for trading.
A market holiday or early close can affect whether orders can be submitted, queued, canceled, or executed. The exact platform behavior may depend on the instrument, market session, order type, and account permissions.
A trading halt, delay, or suspension can temporarily stop or restrict trading in a specific security or market. During a halt, trading may not be allowed in that security for the duration of the halt. FINRA investor materials explain that trading halts, delays, and suspensions can occur for reasons such as pending company news, significant order imbalances, or investor-protection concerns.
