Market Hours and Extended-Hours orders
Clear Street supports four U.S. equity trading sessions. All times are Eastern Time (ET).
| Session | Hours (ET) | Days |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-market | 4:00 AM – 9:30 AM | Monday – Friday |
| Regular | 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM | Monday – Friday |
| After-hours | 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM | Monday – Friday |
| Overnight | 8:00 PM – 4:00 AM | Sunday evening – Friday morning |
Regular hours exclude market holidays and early closes. See 📄 Market Holidays, Early Closes, Trading Halts, and Delays
Pre-market, after-hours, and overnight trading require the Extended Hours setting on your order ticket, and fewer order types are available. See 📄 Placing Orders in Pre-Market and After-Hours (Extended Hours) and 📄 Overnight Trading (24/6)
Order types outside regular hours
Supported order types may differ outside regular market hours. Use only the order types, time-in-force values, and extended-hours settings shown in your ticket. Not every account, symbol, venue, or order type is eligible for extended-hours trading.
Market orders generally seek immediate execution at available market prices and are normally associated with regular market-hours liquidity. Outside regular market hours, available order types may be limited, and displayed prices, bids, asks, or previews are not execution guarantees.
Contact support if
- An order cannot be submitted even though the ticket appears to allow it.
- The ticket shows an unexpected error.
- A submitted order was rejected and you need an account-specific explanation.
- A live order cannot be canceled.
- You have a financial harm concern, a missing fill, a wrong fill, or another trade dispute.
NYSE states that its core trading session is 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM ET and lists early and late trading sessions for certain markets.
FINRA investor materials state that regular trading hours for listed stocks, as defined by the SEC, are 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM ET, and that extended-hours trading can involve lower liquidity, higher volatility, and venue-specific pricing differences.
