Overview

Submitting an order does not guarantee a fill. Orders may be accepted, queued, rejected, partially filled, fully filled, canceled, expired, or otherwise updated based on market conditions, account permissions, order type, routing, market session, and downstream venue behavior.

How to check whether an order filled

On the web or mobile platform: order state and fill progress are shown for each order. If you placed an order through the API and cannot find it in the app, check the order views described under "Activity, order history, and trade records" below — the fill is usually visible there.

Through the API: either of two endpoints will tell you.

  • Get orders, filtered by status. This returns your filled and partially filled orders:
    https://api.clearstreet.com/v1/accounts/ACCOUNT_ID/orders?status=FILLED,PARTIALLY_FILLED
Replace ACCOUNT_ID with your account ID. Reference: get_orders.
  • Get executions returns the individual executions behind your orders. Reference: get_executions.

What each order state means

StateWhat it means
AcceptedThe order has been received and is working.
QueuedPlaced while its market session was not open. The order is waiting for a session in which it can trade — it has not been rejected and nothing is wrong with it. See 📄 Market Hours and Extended-Hours orders.
Partially filledSome quantity has executed; the remainder is still working.
FilledThe full quantity has executed.
CanceledThe order was canceled before completing.
ExpiredThe order's time in force elapsed before it filled.
RejectedThe order was not accepted. Common reasons include account permissions, order type, and the market session — see 📄 Order Types and Time in Force.

Canceling or replacing an order

The API also supports getting an order by ID, submitting orders, replacing an order, canceling an open order, and canceling all open orders, plus related account resources for balances, positions, portfolio history, and options exercise workflows. See 📄 API keys and developer documentation.

A cancel, cancel-all, replace, or exercise-related request may not complete before execution, exercise processing, market movement, or downstream venue handling. If the order fills first, the cancel or replace will not take effect.

Activity, order history, and trade records

The platform may show activity or history for orders, trades, positions, account events, and funding events. Activity views are useful for reviewing recent platform events, but they may not replace official statements, confirmations, tax documents, or regulatory records.

Users commonly ask:

  • Where can I see recent orders?
  • Where can I see fills?
  • Why does a position or cash value differ from what I expected?
  • Where can I find account history?
  • Why does an order show rejected, canceled, partially filled, or expired?

When to contact support

Some order questions require account-specific review, including permissions, order state, routing, market session, market conditions, exercise status, or downstream venue handling.

Contact support for:

  • Fills that are still missing after checking order state on the platform and through the endpoints above.
  • Partial fills that require account-specific review.
  • Wrong-price or wrong-quantity concerns.
  • Duplicate fills.
  • Busted or broken trades.
  • Cancel, cancel-all, or replace requests that did not work as expected.
  • Rejected orders that require account-specific explanation.
  • Errors returned on API order submission, cancel, or replace.
  • Account-specific history, official records, statements, confirmations, tax forms, or suspected errors.
  • Any dispute, complaint, or financial harm concern.
