Transfer Your Portfolio to Clear Street
You can transfer securities and cash from another broker into your Clear Street account from the Clear Street app, on web and mobile. You sign the transfer electronically, so there is no paper form to send.
Before you start
Have these ready:
- The name of your current broker.
- Your account number at that broker.
- Your most recent statement from that broker. PDF, PNG or JPG. You can add up to 5 statements to one transfer.
Start a transfer
- Web: go to Account and select the Transfers tab.
- Mobile: open the menu and tap Portfolio Transfer.
Then:
- Start a new transfer and search for your current broker by name. If you can't find your broker, contact support.
- Enter your account number at that broker.
- Choose a full or partial transfer (see below).
- For a partial transfer, add the assets you want to move.
- Upload your statement.
- Review the details, then sign electronically.
Full or partial transfer
- Full transfer: moves all the equities and cash in the account. Your current broker typically closes the account once the transfer completes.
- Partial transfer: moves only the assets you choose. Your account at your current broker stays open. For each stock, choose to move the full position or a number of shares. You can also add a cash amount.
Transfers in the app have these limits:
- Options can't be transferred in the app yet. Contact support if you need to move options.
- Share quantities must be whole shares.
Open-market purchases
When you submit, you confirm that the assets were bought on the open market. If any of your shares are restricted or were acquired another way (for example, from an employer), contact support before you start.
Track your transfer
Your transfers appear in the Transfers list with one of these statuses:
- Awaiting Statement: the transfer was created but we still need your statement. Upload it to continue.
- Submitted: we have everything we need. Our transfers team reviews the request and sends it to your current broker.
Fees
Clear Street does not charge a fee to transfer in. Your current broker may charge an outgoing ACAT fee for transferring your assets. This fee is charged by your originating broker, not by Clear Street.
If your current broker asks for Clear Street's DTC clearing number, it is 9132.
While your transfer is in progress
- Positions still in transit are not yet in your Clear Street account. You cannot trade them, and they do not count toward your account equity until the transfer completes and the assets settle.
- Your positions remain at your current broker until the transfer completes.
- Once the transfer completes and settles, the positions appear in your portfolio and count toward your equity like any other holding.
Contact support for
- A transfer that appears stalled or is missing positions.
- Questions about whether a specific position can be transferred.
- Moving options or restricted shares.
